Islanders hold off Devils, 4-2!

The Devils started the game fast by taking an early 1-0 lead just 2:52 into the game.

Martin Brodeur got a rare night off. Ex-Islander Yann Danis got the start tonight.

With 2:37 left in the first period, the Islanders' Freddy Meyer evened the score at 1.
In the second period, the Islanders broke the tie by scoring 2 goals in a 50 second span to take a 3-1 lead.

In the third period, Ilka Kovalchuk got the Devils within a goal just 1:41 into the period.

The Devils had a 4 minute power play with 10:45 left in the game. But it was the Islanders who took advantage. Sean Bergenheim lit the lamp with 8:27 left in the game to give the Islanders back their 2 goal lead.

That's the way it remained as the Islanders went on to defeat the Devils.
